Job Opportunity: Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)/General Manager
Position Overview:
Directly reporting to the Board, the CAO/Manager is accountable for: Legislative Compliance, Board Administration, Financial Administration, Facilities Management, Resident Administration, Leadership and Direction, Human Resource Management and Organizational Development, Public Relations, Hospitality Services, Quality Assurance, Safety and Security. Responsible to manage the day-to-day operations of the Senior Citizens Facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and apply legislative requirements and advise the Board of requirements.
- Ensure the compliance with legislation, regulations and government standards.
- Ensures the development of and adherence to a records management system.
- Ensures government reporting requirements are met.
- Conduct board orientation.
- Prepare for board meetings and serve as an advisor to the Board.
- Assist the Board in the development of business plans and governance policies.
- Provide ongoing administrative support to the Board.
- Coordinate the development of operating and capital budgets
- Ensures adherence to approved budgets.
- Liaise with financial and legal advisors and ensure bank accounts are set up and maintained.
- Ensure financial controls are developed, monitored and adhered to and serve as signing authority.
- Secure and maintain a place of business that meets the requirements of the organization.
- Ensure required insurance and licenses are in place and ensure adherence to contract management policy.
- Develop proposals for grants and alternative funding.
- Conduct annual inspections for each unit and maintain a home-like environment in resident units and common areas.
- Ensure preventative and corrective maintenance practices are followed and documented.
- Participate in government Property Condition Inspections.
- Serve as the organizational representative in the design of housing units and renovations.
- Conduct ongoing inspections to monitor condition and safety of buildings and grounds.
- Ensure monthly and semi-annual inspections are completed.
- Ensure site complies with fire and safety regulations.
- Ensure security and personal response systems are maintained, inspected and tested on a scheduled basis.
- Assist in the development, implementation and ongoing review of resident programs, activities and personal choice services.
- Provide information regarding senior housing options. Process applications; conduct resident assessments. Manage waiting and vacancy list.
- Ensure required tenancy service agreements are completed.
- Develop, implement, monitor and review resident managed-risk agreements.
- Coordinate move-in logistics.
- Collect and compile client profile survey data.
- Ensure residents continue to be appropriately housed. Communicate with personnel, family and community support services to meet the needs of residents.
- Participate in and support resident social club/association.
- Ensure residents and staff understand the provisions and procedures pertaining to the “Protection for Persons in Care Act”.
- Communicate mission, vision, core values and strategic direction of the organization.
- Establish and maintain rapport with personnel.
- Develop and implement annual operating plans.
- Conduct annual organizational reviews.
- Review and analyze data to assess operations and to identify trends and patterns.
- Serve as a mediator in personnel and/or resident disputes.
- Conduct ongoing research to ensure the adoption of industry best practices.
- Oversee implementation and maintenance of the Organizational Enhancement Toolkit.
- Develop and implement operational and staff policies.
- Develop work schedules for staff coverage.
- Develop standardized processes and templates for organizational reporting.
- Develop and implement a Human Resource Strategy to attract, develop and retain the optimum workforce and volunteer network.
- Conduct ongoing market analysis to ensure competitive compensation.
- Direct, support and evaluate staff.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and contact for the organization.
- Develop, foster and communicate an organizational identity and culture that aligns with the core values of the organization.
- Oversee implementation of public relations and marketing strategy.
- Conduct ongoing stakeholder identification and needs analysis.
- Ensure complaints are addressed as per policy.
- Seek networking opportunities on behalf of the organization.
- To perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge:
Demonstrates strong leadership, communication and management skills.
Understands seniors’ housing supportive living operations.
Demonstrates organizational and planning skills.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Management Course/Diploma in Hospitality
Minimum five years progressive supervisory/management experience.
Knowledge of food service, housekeeping and facility operations is preferred.
Must be computer literate.
Understanding of WHMIS
First Aid and CPR
Working Conditions:
Must have own vehicle for travel.
May be required to provide additional coverage in times of staffing shortages and for special events.
Must be flexible and have the ability to respond to a variety of changing duties and work routines, work under stressful situations.
Job Opportunity: CAO/General Manager
We are seeking a full-time Manager to operate our new Seniors’ Supportive Living facility: Shalem Haven and our two existing Seniors Independent Living buildings: Shalem Manor and Shalem Court.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the applicant will be responsible for the daily operations for all three buildings as well as the legislative compliance; implementing new/existing policies within the facilities and all other duties set out in the
Job Description
Knowledge of WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety, and a current First Aid/CPR certificate will be required.
Preference will be given to candidates with strong leadership and management skills; an understanding of Senior Housing (Supportive and Independent Living Operations); strong organizational and planning skills; strong interpersonal skills and strong decision making skills.
Start date: Preliminary work will begin in March, 2012
