Message from the Executive Director

June 2022

In January 2021, I wrote to the residents of Shalem expressing a renewed hope of life and activities returning to normal in the wake of the initial vaccine rollout. Little did we know that we wouldn’t see the end of pandemic until well into 2022!  And there are still risks we continue to manage.

As I wrote then, and perhaps much more relevant now, before we turn our backs on the pandemic, it is important to reflect in gratitude for what these past two years have brought.  For they have taught us all much! They have taught us resiliency and perseverance.  They have taught us the important of relationships and community.  They have taught us to trust in God for His protection and perhaps more importantly, to find peace in whatever happens.

At Shalem, these past two years have led us to an increased focused on expanding our wellness programming.  We are creating more times to socialize and build relationship with each other.  We are partnering with more professional experts to learn more about managing health issues related to aging.  We are providing opportunities for residents to become more computer literate.  We are finding more opportunities to dance and laugh!

If you are currently looking for accommodations for yourself or a parent, please reach out to us!  We would love to meet you and connect with you about becoming part of the Shalem community.   It is never too early to live in a community where you can find care, companionship and belonging!

At Shalem, we are hopeful for what this year will bring!  It is good to be excited, to feel a sense of expectation of living life more freely once again. But whatever the future will bring, we can confidently follow our Lord – without doubt and without fear – finding peace in whatever happens.
